Cool idea but needs redesigned
Everyone should have one of these. You can drill screws somewhere to hang this when you want it up and slide it off the screws to remove it for storage when you’re not using it. A cool idea.

p.s. line tangled inside unit around wheel and could not be fixed without breaking it open. It should be designed so that you can open the unit and fix the placement of the line.

Sturdy product, quite large
This is the sturdiest clothesline we’ve ever purchased. The line is thick and strong, the tension holds (rather than droops, like some other clotheslines) and is easy to put away. It is, however, quite large. We live in an apartment, so it is quite visible on our 12-ft balcony. A better fit for a larger, outdoor space, I think. But still works great in a smaller space.

Works great – easy to install and use. I have a small apartment with a small washer/dryer, plus I’m at the beach and have a wet suit. I can hang any clothes I need, then retract the cord when it’s not needed. It’s EXACTLY what I wanted.

Replacement Chains are Expen$ive & Hard to Locate
I have had to replace my chain once so far and found it impossible to find them locally. Some online prices and availability are OK but the shipping really dings you. I found one online hardware site that had reasonable shipping plus a decent discount so I bought two replacements there. My original chain’s life was shortened somewhat by letting someone else borrow the Alligator (they got some dirt in the chain by cutting too close to the ground) as well as my cutting of some trees that were in excess of 6″ in diameter. I have no real complaints about the quality just the price and availability. I still think the Alligator is a fantastic tool.

WONDERFUL!!!
This is just a GREAT Gadget! Cuts up the wood for the fireplace quicly and safely! SO, I’m a 68 year old woman, and I really do not have any experience with chain saws, and I was a bit afraid when I started out. This thing is great! I can cut up wood as fast as anyone, and it does not move around when cutting thanks to the design. Just grab and cut! Thanks, Black and Decker!

alligator loppers rock!
When I’d bought the loppers for my husband, he scoffed at how useful they could possibly be. Not long after that, the first opportunity to use them presented itself. He was wowed! So much so that he insisted that we buy an extra chain for it as he didn’t want to be caught short without one when he desperately needed it. We have used the loppers for yard clean up when storms knock branches down as well as ‘lifting’ trees. Great product!

Superior Product From a Great Company
This is a high quality durable product from a company that stands behind their products. I’ve had one of these for over a year now and I use it every day. The brake piece that keeps the hose from unwinding broke. I think that I over tightened it or assembled it incorrectly. I ordered replacements parts from Rapid Reel and received them very quickly. I was happy to pay the few dollars for the replacement parts. Unexpectedly and completely unsolicited, Rapid Reel refunded me for the replacement parts. That’s service! Stop comparing hose reels and buy this one.

Easy enough for Mom to help out! It’s great!
This hose reel, while a little pricey, has been worth every dime. This is our second purchase. We are so done with those plastic jobs…this is a well constructed reel and so easy to use. Mom not only easily pulls the hose out, but has no problem rolling it back up! If I were to make one suggestion, it would be to find a way to add a “guide” for the hose. You still need to be careful of the hose wrapping outside of the reel. Otherwise, we love it!

Superior Product
When the horrible plastic reel my wife bought broke after a year, i was tasked with finding a replacement. I believe in buying things once, and getting the right product for the job. After some research i found rapid reel. A few local distributors sold the product but no one had it in stock. When it came i was impressed with the quality of the product, which is evident from the moment you open the package. The fixture itself is sturdy and well built, the hardware that is supplied with it is top notch. The instructions are easy to follow and well written. It went together without a hitch and works flawlessly. I put 100 ft of hose on it which just fits, and after consideration i bought the $20 extension kit that allows up to 150′ of hose.

As for value, it cost me $149 canadian and came with a 10 year warranty, from the look of the assembled product it should last for years. Before i bought it i went to a local hardware store and priced out there cast aluminum hose reel at $129. It was poor quality and a cheaply made chinese product, and in the small print on the back of the box it mentioned that it “may contain lead”. So, to summarize, for $20 more i got a well-made american product with a 10 year warranty. ’nuff said!

The BEST Respirator Solution for Welders
I’ve been using 3M’s 6000 series halfmask with P100 2091 cartridges. I was still inhaling a lot of gas and smoke because the 6000 series has a vent right in the middle and the only thing separating me from the outside air is a thin rubber membrane in the vent. Not so with this respirator. Notice the shield on the center section. It covers that vent, and it makes a huge difference. I also switched to the P100 2097 cartridge, which has the Nuisance level Organic Vapor protection. Boy, what a difference! I am now unable to smell ANY welding fumes while welding. This respirator is also made of a thicker silicone and has a much more comfortable fit than the 6000 series. All in all, a little more money for a LOT more safety, and it all fits under my welding helmet perfectly.

I can’t smell a thing!
….and that’s exactly what is supposed to happen when you use a 3M 7500 Respirator….Easy to fit…Comfortable (to a point…sometimes there is bit of conflict when I am wearing eye protection, earmuff style hearing protection and the respirator), but whatever very minor discomfort I experience, I know that my lungs are being protected. I did a lot of research, but what sealed the deal for me was the recommendation of Marc Spagnolo (aka the “Wood Whisperer”).

Very Comfortable
I bought this mask and a pair of the pink asbestos quality filters.

First of all I use this in my wood shop after I found out that I have an allergy to exotic woods.

The mask itself fits very very well and is super comfortable. I do wear glasses and have had NO issues in seeing. I would highly recommend this one.

Ott Lite
The light bulb works OK but bulb is not held in the fixture in a secure manner. Bulb plugs in instead of being srcewed in and our previous bulb fell out and was destroyed when it hit the floor.

Easy to break!
This works wonderfully. Very bright, smooth illumination. But, be warned! It will fall out of the socket at the slightest bump! I’ve replaced ours several times. You’ll need to find a way to secure it to the socket somehow or it will get busted.

Not a happy camper with this purchase
I, like many others liked the price. I own 8 Zip Wall poles and figured the 3rd Hand product would come in handy should I need more poles to create a barrier. I must state that my main reason for purchasing the 3rd Hand contractor pack was to aid me in a crown-molding job. I liked what I read about these units and it seemed like they would fit the bill with the square feet and all.

I will start by saying that the company must have had many complaints with the poles being used to put up plastic barriers. The box that mine came in show several different uses for the poles in line drawing form. The picture of the poles being used for plastic barriers was covered up suggesting the possibility that they received some grief from Zip Wall, or customers frustrated by the attempt to use them in place of Zip Walls.

Personally I find the 3rd hand product quite heavy and cumbersome to use for supporting plastic sheets. Especially when trying to get them up to 9 & ½ foot ceilings! I had to use duct tape to get the plastic that high. Second, after I jacked the pole up onto the main tee and moved onto the second pole, the first pole came crashing down behind me as I jacked the second pole a little too much causing loss of tension on the first. OK so the 3rd Hand failed to please me on plastic barriers on tall metal grid ceilings. Onto the next project.

For crown molding, the 3rd Hand is just that. They performed as expected. The slanting feet and square top plate kept the poles where I placed them. Laying the crown molding on top of the poles was a learning experience. When installing a 16′ length of crown, you must place your ladder in the middle of the length so that you don’t tip the center pole over or as in my first attempt, the 2 middle poles. Very noisy when they hit the floor. Once that lesson was behind me the rest of my 3rd Hand experience was non eventful.
Back to grid ceilings, the poles are nice for jacking up the grids to help in leveling and also holding fluorescent fixtures while replacing grid work on wall relocations. I also used all four poles to raise the ceiling enough to slide a completely dry walled section to a new location 4 feet away without getting hung up on the ceiling grid. Just had to be careful the all the poles had the same tension on them.

I agree with most other posters about the button problem. Very difficult to get them pushed in to raise or lower the pole. Raise the pole too high and you can’t reach the jack handle. The solution there was to turn to pole upside down just to avoid readjustment with those button locks.

The weight of all four poles in the bag is amazingly heavy. 8 Zip Wall poles are half the weight and being all aluminum well balanced. The tension mechanism on the Zip Wall units is a pleasure to use over the 3rd Hand unit. In all fairness, Zip Wall poles are not very good to use for crown molding and too light to use for holding grid ceilings up. Each of these poles has their place. Used on a regular basis it is best to use what each one was designed for, or be aggravated by the lack of compatibility that each system exhibits.

I too have the same complaints about the storage bag being a few inches too small and lastly, would somebody please tell me what all the different bushings on the large plates are for? I’m still trying to figure out how the large feet attach. O NO! Not the directions!!! Still confused, I love my Zip Wall poles.

Great tool set at an excellent price
Excellent tool. I was able to fit all four 3rd Hand Poles, four Universal Feet, four Dust Clips, eight head/foot pads, and a 30 page catalog from Fastcap into the bag supplied with the unit. The secret is to make the poles as small as possible (remove the Universal Feet, screw the bottom support all the way up into each pole and alternate the way the poles are placed into the bag), then place the Universal Feet into the bag.

The 3rd Hand Poles are very sturdy, and are easily elongated or shortened. They perform as advertised and are a great help when installing long runs of crown molding.

Slightly amazing product/ many uses…
I had been looking for an excuse to buy a system called “Zip Wall”. I finally have a job where I really needed some way of controlling dust. When I searched for “Zip Wall” it also came up with this competing system. I was intriqued and pleased to see that the FastCap product was approximately half of what the other one was. I did a lot of research and was not helped by the add copy which leaves a lot out. After almost ordering two of the dual packs I carefully read the copy again on several sites and was able to determine that the Contractor Pack was the better deal including the big feet and the bag, which is quite usable with the feet removed.

Ok… I needed the 3rd hands for controlling dust when I removed the old plaster from wall bricks so I could repair them. Since this is interior work I really need to keep the dust from getting all over the place.

The first part of the job however was to fix a crack in the poured basement wall. The crack runs from floor to ceiling. The top of the crack runs behind a cold air return duct which I needed to either cut in half or move a lot of sheet metal to remove. Since the 3rd hand can support 70 lbs. each I supported the item with 3 of them and cut it in half then lowered it to the floor.

Once the crack was repaired I now needed to reinstall the sheet metal. However the plaster ceiling (in a hundred year old house) had sagged and hung down about 3 inces and I could not get the duct to fit properly let alone support it properly [I didn't want to use a really long screw since I was afraid further sagging would rip it out].

I used the 3rd hands to gradually lift the ceiling running 4 1/2 inch screws with fender washers about every 6 inches into sound joists. I only raised the ceiling about 2 feet out from the duct area, but am sure I could have done the entire ceiling in this manner in much less time than any other way I have heard of. Of course the 3rd hands let me support the duct again as I secured it to the ceiling.

Oh yea… It does make a great dust barrier too.

In short I was quite pleased with the strength and utility of this product. This is my first review of any product anywhere. It has already paid for itself and I am not finished with the job…

FastCap’s 3HANDCPACK 3rd Hand Contractor Poles 4-Pack includes four of the 3rd HAND adjustable floor-to-ceiling poles with the standard 3 inch by 3 inch square articulating feet. We also include four Universal Feet that have a larger 6 inch by 6 inch footprint, making the Contractor Pack much more versatile. Each Universal Foot has adapters for converting to articulating feet with a larger footprint, or as fixed feet that will allow your 3rd Hand poles to stand upright on their own. The telescopic poles extend from 5 to 12 feet for work in rooms with both low and high ceilings. Featuring dual adjustments, you can use either the ball detents found every 12 inches, or the tightening knob to get the pole set to the correct working height. At this point you use the ergonomic handle to apply the pressure needed for your application. The poles feature a 150-pound load capacity for clamping, bracing, and general support for other light duty projects. Each pole is equipped with a fully articulating head and foot and textured rubber pads for solidly gripping any surface at any angle. Quick release levers make takedown a snap, too, letting you move from site to site with radically less downtime. Plus, the whole pack fits nicely into the included carrying bag for easy transport!
